Create a fully designed website requires lots of work and time. The Udemy web develop course instructor introduces Bootstrap which is a very popular code resource. Lots of companies and web developers use it.
Basically, we take someone else's code from Bootstrap and add into our own application. It helps us make good looking sites that are responsive and quickly. Moreover, we don't have to write a ton of our own code.
In the Bootstrap, you can find many customized CSS, JS and Component code for different style web design. Some codes are free to use, so you can copy and paste those code in your HTML page, and then you make your own change.
How do we apply Bootstrap into our application?
I am going to use button as a simple example to show you how we apply Bootstrap to our own application.
Add CSS Link
We go to the "Download page" , you can either download the file or just copy the highlight CSS link from Bootstrap CDN.
You paste the link inside the <head>, so the Bootstrap CSS will be applied to your website automatically.
Choose Your Button Color
We click the "CSS" on the navigation bar, and find the "Button" on the right side of page. We scroll down the page and find "Options". It displays many different color button options and lists the CSS code. All we need to do is find your favorite button and copy the code.
In the HTML page, I create a button without any style. After I go through all the colors I choose the "Info" light blue button, and I copy its code and pasted on my own HTML page. Then I write "Learn More" inside the <button> element.
As the result, the first "Learn More" button is no style. The second "Learn More" button is applied Bootstrap button code, so it looks nicer.
Change The Button Size
If we want to make a large button, we could find the "large button CSS code" from Bootstrap Button page. It provides btn-lg (large), btn-sm (small) and btn-xs (X-small) for size options.I make the button large, so I added the "btn-lg" into class attribute and remain the rest code same. The result shows a larger button.
Active & Disabled Button
Another important button functions are "active state" and "disabled state". It means that whether the button work or not. When the button is active, button will appear a darker background. When the button is disabled, the button looks unclickable.
I added the "active " and "disabled" inside the <button> tag, and remain the rest value unchanged.
As the result, we can see three "Learn More" buttons. The darker background button is active. The "learn more disabled" button doesn't pop, so it is not clickable.
There are more button styles on the Bootstrap website, you can feel free to play with it.
